'Black Panther' actor: Atlanta rife with 'actorpreneur' opportunities

Stanley Aughtry is an electrical engineer by day and a superhero by, well, whenever the camera is ready. And he hopes others will follow his lead in making the "starving actor" mindset a thing of the past.

Aughtry, a manager of HPH and fuel utilization at Norfolk Southern Corp. (NYSE: NSC) in Atlanta, is a part-time actor and model with a burgeoning IMDB profile. That includes his first blockbuster appearances as a featured extra in "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises," plus as a body-double in Tyler Perry's "Boo! A Madea Halloween." He landed his first feature speaking role for a major film as Shombay, a merchant tribe warrior in Atlanta-filmed "Black Panther."

Aughtry recently spoke with Atlanta Business Chronicle about balancing his day job with his burgeoning acting career — a skilled he dubs as being an "actorpreneur."

"It was never intended that I was gonna go down the film path, but the path happened to open its doors to me while I was working in the engineering world," Aughtry told the Chronicle at the Hyatt Hotel during Dragon Con. "Fortunately, even still to this day, I've been able to juggle the worlds. So there's times where I'm able to put my engineering hat on, and times where I'm able to put my artistic, film hat on."
